
Ptl. Carmen
Giovacchini, Badge #108, was hired by the Ewing Police
Department on December 12, 1987. He attended the
New Jersey State Police Academy - Municipal Class #188
at Sea Girt, New Jersey. He was assigned to the
Patrol Bureau. In 1987 he was assigned to the
Community Policing Unit. Through his many years as
a police officer he has been a member of the Bike
Patrol, trained as a Breathalyzer Operator/HGN and
armorer. He was also a Field Training Officer
(FTO) and instructed both at the Ewing Kid's Police
Academy and Citizen's Police Academy.
In 2004 he was
selected as Ewing's first K-9 officer and met his
partner, Pyro, German Sheppard. Pyro was 22 months
old and was born in Poland. They attended the New
Jersey State Police (NJSP) Scent Class for Explosives
and then the NJSP Patrol Class. They are members
of the New Jersey Detect and Render Safe Task Force.
In April
2006, Ptl. Giovacchini and Pyro competed in a United
States Police Canine Association (USPCA) PD-1 Patrol Dog
Trial and place 2nd Novice. They also competed in a PD-2
Scent Tracking Trials and was certified.
They
have trained in a many different areas and environments
such as boats, trains, and aircraft. One time they
provided security at the Lincoln Financial Field during
a NFL football game featuring the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ptl.
Giovacchini has been awarded numerous departmental
awards and medals including a Lifesaving Award, three
Departmental Recognition Medals and one Exceptional Duty
Medal. He also holds the classification of
Distinguished Expert in Shooting.
