
Ptl. Todd
Jones, Badge #159, was hired by the Ewing Police
Department in September 2001. He graduated the
Trenton Police Academy Class #88 and was assigned to the
Patrol Bureau. He was certified as a CAD/911
dispatcher call taker and Breathalyzer Operator.
In January
2005, Ptl. Jones was selected to become a K-9 Officer.
He partnered with a German Shepherd from
Czechoslovakia named "Jake". They attended
the New Jersey State Police Patrol Class and then the
Trenton Police K-9 Academy k-9 Class for scent training.
They are members of the New Jersey Detect and Render
Safe Task Force.
Ptl. Jones and Jake have trained in many different
environments such as on trains, helicopters, planes,
ferry boats. They have trained at Ellis Island
around and in the Statue of Liberty. They have
also conducted security bomb sweeps at different arenas
in the state before music concerts and gatherings.
In April 2007, Ptl. Jones and Jake were in the area of
Route 31and Olden Ave when the Wachovia Bank on the
corner was being robbed at gun point. As Ptl.
Jones pulled into the parking lot the suspects were
exiting the bank and getting into their getaway car.
One of the suspects pointed his gun at Ptl. Jones
before the vehicle sped away. Ptl. Jones gave
chase in his K-9 SUV. The suspects tried loosing
Ptl. Jones in a nearby neighborhood. They
abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot. Ptl.
Jones and Jake gave chase on foot and was able to
apprehend all three suspects in various backyards.
All the weapons and cash were recovered without a single
shot being fired.
For their bravery and perseverance, Ptl. Jones and Jake
were recognized by the New Jersey Police Chief's
Association (Valor Award), the New Jersey State
Policeman's Benevolent Association -PBA (Unit Citation,
Certificate of Merit, and Valor Award), the New Jersey
Security Association (Outstanding Service Award), and
the Federal Bureau of Investigation - FBI (Exceptional
Service Award) for a job well done.
Ptl. Jones has also been awarded many departmental
awards that include a Meritorious Medal and three (3)
Exceptional Duty Medals. Ptl. Jones was named the
Kiwanis Police Officer of the Year in the year 2005.
