The Gang
Suppression Unit was formed in January 2006. The
formation of the unit enables a flexible response
capability to evolving crime trends within Ewing.
The primary responsibility of the Gang Suppression Unit
is gang intervention and street crime suppression.
In addition to this primary mission, the unit also
addresses order maintenance and quality of life concerns
within the community. Gang Suppression Unit
personnel utilize Community Oriented-Problem Solving
Policing methods to accomplish this mission.
To provide
the required flexibility in this proactive response the
unit works a varied schedule dependent upon the specific
"problem" assigned to resolve. Gang
Suppression
Unit personnel are not typically assigned
calls-for-service which allows for a focused proactive
response to specific crime issues. Unit personnel
work in coordination and cooperation with other
departmental bureaus, Mercer County Special
Investigation Unit, Mercer County Sheriff's Office, the
Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and other local police
departments.
